We are so proud to announce that Amanda Ladish has been selected to participate in the 2020-21 Arkansas Declaration of Learning Program. This prestigious program is open to Arkansas school librarians and teachers of English language arts, arts, social studies, ELs, special education, and gifted and talented in grades 4-12. Selected participants will learn about historic art, objects, and resources from the Clinton Foundation, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Reception Rooms, and the William J. Clinton Presidential Library. At a five-day summer workshop in Little Rock from June 15-19, 2020, participants will work with representatives from these organizations and DESE to develop innovative units and lesson plans. Inspired by historic objects, artwork and special site visits, educators will develop a student-led, teacher directed civic engagement project that addresses an issue in their community, state, nation, or world. Throughout the following school year, participants will test and refine their unit and execute the civic engagement project. Participants will be mentored throughout the one-year program and receive a stipend as program goals are met. Finally, there will be a culminating celebration event in summer 2021. We are so proud of Mrs. Ladish for being selected for this prestigious honor. #THEChoice

A huge congratulations to Mr. Beard and his EAST students. Their VR for Phantom Limb Pains project has made top 20 for Samsung's Solve for Tomorrow competition which guarantees GJHS at least $50,000 in technology for our school. They now have the opportunity to send part of the team to New York City (paid for by Samsung) in a few weeks to present at the national pitch event where the top 5 projects will receive $100,000 for their school. You can see the video of their project here: https://www.samsung.com/us/solvefortomorrow/. The school who receives the most votes will win an additional $10,000 "Community Choice Award" so please go and vote for them! #THEChoice

At this event, our FCCLA students scored an 86, which is only 4 points below a Gold medal! These students have now qualified to go to Nationals in Washington DC in July! We are so proud of these students and their accomplishments! #THEChoice #WeAreGeorge

A group of EAST students went to George Elementary today and played the "Save the Turtles" board game that they created using laser engraving, 3D printing, and Microbit programming. After playing the game, they broke into groups and taught the students about how they designed the 3D printed turtles using Tinkercad and how they programmed the Microbit.

Yesterday we held our ESL Exit Ceremony for students that are exiting the ESL program. These students exiting the program passed the ELPA 21 test last year with all 4s and/or 5s in the four domains on the test. They also passed two other major tests such as the ACT Aspire, MAPs, or their semester tests. We are so very proud of all of these students! Great job, Wranglers!
